Mila Dix, PhD candidate
Mila’s research focuses on eating and weight disorders, like anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and obesity. The topic of her PhD project revolves around two broad goals. The first goal is to clarify the current classification confusion that is present in eating and weight disorders. There is a huge overlap in symptoms between these conditions, many comorbidities are present, and individuals with an eating or weight disorder frequently cross over between the conditions. A transdiagnostic model that views eating and weight disorders on a continuum will be tested.
The second goal is to look for predictors of suboptimal weight loss in individuals with obesity who undergo bariatric surgery. For these goals, she will work together with the Dutch Obesity Clinic (NOK) and eating disorder centers in the Netherlands. She will use network methodology to study the transdiagnostic model of eating disorders and the predictors of suboptimal weight loss in bariatric patients. Her PhD project is part of the New Science of Mental Disorders (NSMD) consortium.
